Cold Storage Compressor Construction
Compressors can be classified into three types based on construction:
Hermetic or Sealed Compressor
The compressor and the electric motor are enclosed in a welded steel shell.
Semi-Hermetic or Semi-Sealed Compressor
The compressor and the electric motor are housed in a shell with a cover and screws.
Open Compressor
The compressor and the electric motor are separate units that are coupled together.
Cold Storage Compressor Performance
Compressors are divided into two performance categories: rotary or reciprocating.
Rotary Compressors

Reciprocating Compressors
– Piston cylinder compressors are considered reciprocating compressors.
